| Good morning FFHians! Welcome to World Championship Festival week! The year is rapidly coming to a close, but our biggest two series of the year remain. If you have entries in this or the upcoming International Stock Horse Festival, I wish you the best of luck! I'm sure we'll see some exciting finishes. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, I wanted to write a proper news post to address a number of changes - big and small - we've been working on over the past couple weeks. First of all, you may have noticed that the moderator team has grown! I'm happy to welcome two new moderators to the team. Alex (#165) has been playing Flying for Home since the early, early days when it ran on a forum using an Excel spreadsheet. She's been a moderator here before but stepped down due to real life obligations awhile ago. Now that she has time to return to the game, it's only fitting to give her back her shiny badge. ;) Ace (#5745) has also been promoted to moderator. She returned to the game in 2019 after taking several years off. Eager to volunteer herself for tedious work, she's been working her fingers off as a race steward for Y39! Be sure to thank her if you see her around. We've also made a bit of a change to our race steward role. Race stewards are now selected via nomination and are all considered moderator candidates for the future. In addition to keeping races under control, they now have the opportunity to participate in FFH development discussions. They are the 'voice of the people', so to speak, and offer valuable insight that bridges the gap between moderators and the rest of the community. Feel free to chat with them if you have anything you'd like brought up in discussions - but please seek out someone with a moderator badge if you have any problems you need addressed. Speaking of races, we have some big changes coming to races next year. Here's a list of everything you can expect to see starting in January Y40. ★ Thoroughbred and Goldblood races will be completely split, from Allowance all the way up through Auto Qualifiers. If you encounter any Open breed races after January, please report them! ★ NW Allowance races are being condensed to accommodate for the breed split. There will now be an assortment of NW3 and NW5, but no NW2 or NW4 for the foreseeable future. ★ Trinity prep races are being adjusted to ensure they are well-balanced in all 3 regions. These will begin with 2 year old races in December and will continue through March B. ★ Extra races for Stock breeds are being added consistently through the year. This went in last year, but a few months didn't get completed on time. ★ Stock horses will debut new 3 year old ONLY races. These will be offered from G3 to G1 throughout the year. (G1 only during racing season.) ★ A limited card of Standardbred races will be offered in A meets in addition to their regular card in B meets. These will include Allowance through G2, but will not include G1. ★ Although it's already been posted, we don't want to forget about the two new series coming - Zodiac Zenith for Standardbreds and Elemental Seniority for Stock. (Scroll down for more info.) Phew, that's a lot of race changes! Seriously, guys, give all the moderators and stewards a pat on the back. They've been putting in a lot of effort to bring about all these awesome improvements to the race cards. I'm sure you've all been keeping your eyes glued to the bulletin board, right? If not, here's a quick recap of everything that's been posted this week. ★ The Smoochin' Stall background was a present from Rusty for Valentine's Day. If you like it so much you want more copies, you can grab them from the Pro Shop for a limited time. ★ Driving Trial eligibility shows correctly on the main page of Standardbreds. (I also accidentally 'fixed' something that wasn't broken, so disregard info about surface bars.) ★ Driving genes have been updated so that more HT/Import/SS horses will be driving eligible in the future. All existing Standardbreds also had a chance to improve their Driving gene - double check for eligibility! ★ Standardbreds may now only perform buddy workouts with Standardbred buddies (and vice versa). When purchasing retired geldings at the HT, you may select between Thoroughbred and Standardbred. Additionally, retired geldings at the HT no longer cost Trader Tickets. ★ After some feedback on the forums, we've made a few adjustments for Stock Horses. Their starting Longevity (for future horses) has been lowered slightly. Their Prime has been increased slightly. We hope these changes will balance out so that they can have the long careers we envision for them without giving you headaches. ★ Racing horses aged 6 or older may now be retired early for a penalty fee. It costs $500,000 to retire 6 and 7 year olds early, while 8 year olds and older cost $250,000. ★ Gelding a horse will now improve Athleticism. If a horse is Low, they will always increase to Average. If a horse is Average, they may increase to High. ★ Icons for race notes and placements have returned next to the Race History. ★ Quick Enter pages have been spruced up! Series tracks now list individually below the regular tracks and will show series races in all regions. Your horse's primary and secondary track will also be highlighted to make it easier to find. ★ All created horses (HT, import, custom) which are 2 or 3 years old will have their stats adjusted to reflect the month they are created. This will bump up their stats as if they'd had training throughout the year so that they do not start as disadvantaged when created later in the year. ★ Pedigree Purifiers and the new Love Blooms tack are craftable in the Workshop! |
